Site was timing out.
Looked like the HTTP daemon was off.

Sorry I didn't go looking much more into it, as I knew of this post, and thought you may have been doing back end stuff.

That's odd. I'll check logs.

Now that's what I call a performance improvement ! Very snappy performance now. I assume that the outage on Friday was to allow some changes on the server. Well done.

Thanks,

I was working. Sorry about that. Tried to pick a late time that no one would be on. Server had some OS updates and I wanted to get it done before the nightowls were up all weekend.

just after 10pm EST and the site is painfully slow.
Not sure what else this server is hosting, but it feels very starved of resources.

The site could experience slowness due to countless factors:
Bots surfing
DDOS Attack (yes, it happens a lot)
Your ISP
The server's ISP
CRON jobs running in background
Refreshing cache files

There's really not much to be done that can speed it up further without investing a significant amount of time rewriting the forum software to play well with PHP7. Periodic slowness is normal for any website.

I think we can close the thread off now.

The server performance now is significantly better than it was when I started this thread. Many thanks to Charles and Lee for the efforts that they've put in to sort out the performance issues.
